YSRCP MLC Candidates: Even as the race for MLC tickets under local area constituencies (LAC) is underway and large number of aspirants would like to see their names figure the final list for 11 MLC seats, the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has come out with the list of names for three candidates for the upcoming biennial election to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council from the Assembly quota.
The YSRCP has re-nominated DC Govinda Reddy from Badvel of Kadapa district, who retired as MLC on May 31 this year. The other two candidates are Ishaq Basha of Kurnool and Palavalasa Vikrant of Srikakulam.
Former District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) chairman, Vikrant, is from north Andhra region and belongs to the Turpu Kapu sub-caste. Ishaq’s candidature was announced by the party as per an assurance given earlier to the minorities by the Chief Minister. He is a Market Yard Chairman in Nandyal in Kurnool district of Rayalaseema region. The third candidate, DC Govind Reddy is a former MLC. He is from Badvel in the YSR Kadapa district, also in Rayalaseema.
Meanwhile, the party is yet to announce the names of 11 candidates for Legislative Council elections for LACs, in a day or two. It is being said that the party is trying to take care that a proper representation to various social groups will be given while finalising the candidates. It is known fact that 50% of the candidates for elections to 14 MLCs seats from MLA quota and LACs will be from backward classes, scheduled castes and minorities.
The elections to the three MLC seats under MLA quota will be held on November 29 and the 11 MLC seats under the Local Authorities’ Constituencies will be held on December 10. Meanwhile, the aspiring candidates for MLC seats have started campaigning in anticipation of making it to the list of official candidates.
Those who are in the race include I Raghuraju from Vizianagaram, Vamsikrishna Srinivas Yadav from Visakhapatnam, Anantababu from East Godavari, Marri Rajasekhar and Ummareddy Venkateswarlu from Guntur, Bharat from Chittoor, R Ramanatham Babu from Prakasam, Talasila Raghuram from Krishna and Visweswara Reddy from Anantapur.
