Yogi Adityanath: There are people who support Yogi because he is more Hindutva figure than Modi. He speaks in the language of 80:20. He is far right if looks from western definition of categories. He wears saffron and has Baba cult. Most of them may be true. In India, elections are focused more on social issues like secularism and communalism. It is true that these are issues to be debated and discussed. But these are not only issues on which elections should be focused. Public perception will be different. They are looking Yogi as selfless and honest person. No scams occurred during his five years period; No Mafia Raj in the last five years; No delay in execution of Projects; No communal clashes under his regime; No crony capitalism noticed. These are also issues under Public watch.
India in poor rankings because of……?
Media highlights always Hindu-Muslim factor while debating UP elections but not unemployment, poor social parameters, lowest per capita income other than Bihar, poor educational and health infrastructure, poor physical infrastructure. These are the real issues facing by the people. These are the real issues facing by entire Eastern India, particularly by Bihar, UP, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh. Even Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are fast coming out of BIMARU brand. India is considered very poorly in the eyes of world rankings because of Eastern India. South, West and North is forging ahead with phenomenal progress where as Bihar, UP (except Western part), Jharkhand and Chattisgarh are dragging India to poorer country. It is high time that these four States along with Assam and West Bengal must be brought to parity with rest of India. In Northern India, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir are far ahead in social parameters than these four States.
India is on one side 6th largest economy in the world and on the other side, its social parameters like infant mortality, literacy rate, life span, educational standards, health infrastructure and its accessibility are very poor. Even it is far below than neighbouring countries except Pakistan. All these figures reflect because of acute backwardness in Eastern part of India. These four States comprise 145 seats out of 543 total Lok Sabha strength, nearly 27% of total Lok Sabha. Actually, population wise, it is higher than this. More than 30% of Indian population lives in these four States. India’s crux of the problem is poor development of this area.
Why Eastern India is so backward?
There are several historical reasons which were not addressed by the respective State Governments. Populism and hallow slogans dominated the picture. Law and Order is the biggest hurdle in these States. Private Investment is considered as anti-people and also anti-national because of false propaganda. No solid foundation was laid for industrial development. UP and Bihar are mainly dependent on Agriculture whereas rest of the country is moving ahead with modern times. That is the reason; migration of workers is very large from these two States. No opportunities were created by State to the people to become entrepreneurs. Rule breaking is considered heroism. Just two days back, Railway wagons were put on fire to express their protest against alleged loopholes in Railway examination for recruitment. Such was the environment even now. Which investor will come and take risk? First time, this environment was broken by Yogi Adityanath five years ago.
Track record of Yogi Adityanath
Yogi became Chief Minister in the year 2017. Everyone including this writer felt that he will be a failure to govern such a big State. Surprisingly, we found strong administrator under deceptive saffron robes. He brought Law and Order under control. Mafia gangs flew from the State. Police department started performing their duty independently. That is his first and best achievement. His next priority is providing power connections to all villages and all households. His track record is exemplary. He provided more than 1 crore new connections in the last five years. Power supply to rural areas is vastly improved. Power generation capacity is increased. His third biggest achievement is effective implementation of Central Government schemes like toilets to every rural household, crores of free cooking gas connections, lakhs of houses under PM Awas Yojana, foolproof coverage of all poor people under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana by providing free ration to all, starting more than 40 new medical colleges during his tenure, improving health infrastructure during Covid time etc. Yogi Adityanath well utilized credit support provided by Modi Government to MSMEs. The ‘One District, One Product’ concept yielded better results.
His track record in construction of Express ways is amazing. He converted Uttar Pradesh as Express Way Pradesh in a short span of time. The opening of Kushinagar International Airport and starting of construction of Asia’s largest International Airport at Jewar, Noida is also a big achievement. Road network all over the State is vastly improved. The Modi Government new initiative of piped water to all household is also well grabbed by Yogi Government. As a first step, the water starving Bundelkhand region is planned for full coverage of piped water. Also, the first river linkage project was started by linking Ken River with Betwa which will solve permanently Bundelkhand problem. These are the few projects taken up by Yogi Government in a span of five years. Unfortunately, Media’s more focus is on communal issues, Ram Mandir and Kashi Vishwanatha Dham. If Eastern India should come out of backwardness, this performance is required.
Why Yogi should come back to power again?
It is not because of his utterances here and there on communal lines, it is not for construction of Ram Mandir. It is to continue the good governance by effectively implementing Central Government projects; it is to continue big ticket infra projects; it is to continue scam free administration. Who benefited from his schemes? Muslims got more number of welfare scheme benefits during Yogi Government compared to previous Governments. By effectively using Direct Benefit Schemes, poor people were maximum beneficiaries irrespective of caste and religion. Whatever utterances Yogi made, he did not show any discrimination in extending the welfare benefits. A Muslim poor who got house under Government scheme will remember Modi and Yogi. Similar is the case with other poor people.
Yogi’s come back requires not only for people in UP but also to the people of other three States. For example, Bihar is the highest among all States in multi-dimensional poverty index. More than 50% of people are under this category. If UP wins by Yogi, UP model will be talking point in rest of the three States. UP during Yogi Government improved a lot in social and economic parameters. Per capita GDP though lower to national average, it improved substantially in the last five years. It has now become 2nd largest GSDP after Maharashtra. There is every chance that it may emerge as largest GSDP in the coming five years if Yogi comes back again. This model may influence voters in Bihar to become progressive economic State. If UP and Bihar comes out from present economic backwardness, India will also come out from poorer ranks in the eyes of the world. So, Eastern India development is directly linked to continuation of UP model for which Yogi should come back again.

Who is alternative to Yogi? Akhilesh Yadav who is now promising many freebies without telling where from money comes. He promised 300 units of power free to all domestic consumers. That means State Government must provide huge subsidy to Discoms. Everyone saw how bad Discoms were during Akhilesh Government. He wanted to take back power situation to the old era regime. It is very dangerous game. It is nothing but populism. UP should not go back to darkness in the name of freebies. Development agenda should continue in the interest of UP, Eastern India as well as whole India. That is why; Yogi should come back at least for this term. Then, India need not look back. Let us hope he will come back with comfortable majority.
