Lawn Bowls is one of the oldest sports in the Commonwealth Games, and has featured in every edition since 1930. Matches are played on a Lawn Bowls Green with a rink area. There are usually six rinks per green. A small ball called as bowl is rolled toward a smaller stationary ball, called a jack.
The bowls are also called woods. They are made up of either rubber, wood, or some other material. They are also flattened on one side, so that they follow a curved course when rolled.
Points will be awarded based on each bowl that is closest to the jack. In singles competition, the first one to score 21 points will win and coming to pairs, triples and fours, the team which scores highest points will win.
In the fours, each team gets eight throws or rolls in one end which means completion of one round. One team has to bowl 18 ends to complete the match and it happens in a circular fashion.
