TRS Appoints District Chiefs: TelangaanRastraSamiti (TRS) president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Raoappointed new party presidents to all districts in Telangana. This comes after the party president decided to strengthen the party from grass root level. He is also expected to announce the party district committees shortly. But has the move been really beneficial for KCR or will it boomerang?
The appointment of party presidents for all the districts is not completely a new move by KCR. The TRS had the system from 2014 till 2017. Since then the party had abolished this “dual-power system” and left the entire responsibility on minister as in-charge for their respective districts. But now reintroducing the structure within the party has turned into a surprise for all.

KCR
Firstly the move to appoint party presidents for all the districts is itself a surprise move by the TRS supremo. Most of the MPs, MLAs, MLCs and ministers were under the assumption that KCR would consult them before taking a decision in this regard. And most of the leaders believed that they could accommodate their people to the positions.

Secondly, by not consulting their party cadre with regards to appointment of party presidents for all the districts was a clear message sent out to all in the party that KCR is the final authority and his decision have to be accepted by all.
Thirdly, this appointment clearly draws the curtains on the expansion of the cabinet. Many aspirants of ministerial berths are now placed as district chief, so it is very clear that the CM is not in mood for expansion of the state cabinet. TRS will go for elections next year with the existing setup and no more changes.

Fourth, appointment of district chiefs will also put a check on respective district MPs, MLAs, MLCs and ministers who were calling the shots in their home districts. With the emergence of alternative leadership, the question of being given ticket in 2023 itself becomes a bigger issue for them. So, KCR believes that now everyone will work the people and make TRS more popular!
