The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) plans to distribute 1 lakh clay Ganesha idols this year as part of its campaign to promote eco-friendly idols. To promote the use of clay Ganesh idols, the HMDA is setting up a free distribution of 8″ clay Ganesh idols to individuals and NGO’s. The distribution will be completed, as in previous years, at 41 locations throughout the city.
According to a press statement, all preparations were made to distribute the idols to the general public directly at various locations as well as via mobile vans manned by HMDA officials and officers. Up to August 30th, these idols will be distributed.
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most important festivals for Hindus. The festival is set to be celebrated in full swing this after a two-year lull due to Covid-19 restrictions. The festival is going to start on August 31, events have been planned at a bigger scale with grand pandals, processions, etc. Devotees around the world bring colourfully-crafted idols of Lord Ganesha at home and celebrate it for ten days with much fervour.
