As expected, Team India won the second Test match against New Zealand in just four days. The Virat Kohli-led team posed a massive target of 540 runs for New Zealand to win the match. Just like the first innings, the Kiwi batters failed once again and got all-out for just 167 runs in the second innings. Thus, India won the match by massive 372 runs. India also sealed the series by 1-0.
New Zealand started off their innings this morning with an overnight score of 140/5. Indian bowlers took no time to dismiss the rest of the batters and finished the game in less than an hour. Jayant Yadav, who made his comeback after a long time, scalped four wickets this morning. Ashwin dismissed one other batsman and completed the match. Daryl Mitchell (60) remained the highest scorer for New Zealand. Jayant (4/49) and Ashwin (4/34) scalped four wickets each for India.
This is India’s biggest victory in terms of runs. Their previous best was a 337-run win against South Africa in 2015. This also happens to be New Zealand’s biggest defeat in terms of runs. Their second-worst defeat in terms of runs was against South Africa (358 runs) in 2007.
Mayank Agarwal, who scored a total of 212 runs in this match, has been awarded the Man of the Match. Ravichandran Ashwin, who scalped 13 wickets in the series, has been given the Man of the Series trophy. With this win, India now stands at the top position of the ICC World Test rankings.
