Team India had a horrific journey in the T20 World Cup 2021. It entered the tournament as one of the favorites and is now exiting in the league stage itself. This is probably the worst performance by the team in an ICC tournament after the 2007 ODI World Cup. India will play its last match against Namibia tonight.
When the Indian squad was announced, everyone was ecstatic by seeing big names in it. But none of them, barring KL Rahul, was in the form during the IPL. Instead of selecting the players who showed good skills on UAE surfaces during the IPL, the selectors went ahead with the big names having statistical power behind them. That strategy proved costly for Team India. None of the Indian players has put up an impressive show in the T20 World Cup. By losing its first two games against Pakistan and New Zealand respectively, Indian was virtually knocked out of the tournament. Then, it had to depend on the other results to keep semifinal hopes alive. However, the Kiwis spoiled all Indian fans’ hopes and entered the semifinals the other day.
It is the last assignment for head coach Ravi Shastri and the other coaching staff. They will be giving up their jobs after tonight’s game. Tonight’s match is also the last T20I game for Virat Kohli as a captain. It is rather disappointing to see these guys ending their tenures on such a sad note. Hopefully, India comes back stronger in T20 World Cup 2022.
