Team India: Team India’s dream of 28 years remains unfulfilled. The wait to win a Test series in South Africa continues as the hosts won the deciding third Test and sealed the series with 2-1. However, India should be commended for putting on a brilliant show throughout the series.
After the batting debacle in both innings, India’s defeat was inevitable in the third Test. South Africa started off the day with an overnight score of 101/2, with Keegan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen in the crease. The duo made sure not to lose a wicket early in the morning today.
Both of them made a partnership of 54 runs for the third wicket. Finally, Petersen (82) was dismissed by Shardul Thakur after playing a brilliant knock. Later, RVD and Temba Bavuma took care of the rest and didn’t lose their respective wickets. As a result, South Africa made 212 runs for the loss of only three wickets and won the match by a dominant performance. Bumrah, Thakur, and Shami picked up a wicket each for India.
Keegan Petersen has been awarded the Man of the Match award for his brilliant knocks in both the innings (72 and 82). He was also given the Man of the Series award for being the top scorer of the series (276 runs).
It is an excellent comeback by an inexperienced South Africa team after losing the first Test. India, on the other hand, has a lot of problems to solve, especially in the batting department. Meanwhile, both teams are now prepping up for the ODI series, which starts on January 19.
