India signed off to the T20 World Cup in style but nevertheless, it was a disappointing outing for both players and fans. In its last league game against Namibia, Team India showed complete dominance and won the match comfortably by 9 wickets. Once again, it was openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul who played key roles in a low scoring chase.
After winning the toss, skipper Virat Kohli chose to bowl first. Namibian batters played cautiously against Indian bowlers and tried to save their wickets. But they fell prey to the spinning duo of Ravichandran Ashwin (3/20) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/16). Three wicket-hauls by both bowlers have broken apart Namibia’s batting lineup. As a result, they have managed to score only 132/8 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah (2/19) bowled yet another economic spell for his team.
It was a cakewalk chase for India. Once again, openers Rahul (54*) and Rohit (56) gave a flying start and made a partnership of 86 runs for the first wicket. Until Rohit was in the crease, Rahul played slowly. Thus, Rohit Sharma scored his half-century pretty early. Once he got dismissed in the 10th over, Rahul unleashed his arms and started attacking Namibian bowlers. He, along with the help of Suryakumar Yadav (25*), made sure not to lose another wicket and won the game comfortably. Hence, India made a score of 136/1 in just 15.2 overs.
India will soon move on from this disappointing journey and start prepping up for the upcoming home series against New Zealand, which starts on November 17.
