After dominating Afghanistan in its last game, India now got yet another massive win against Scotland. Though it has been a bit late, team India has finally got back to its original form. Especially, today’s game proved why India is called a world-class team. In the first innings, an exceptional bowling performance restricted Scotland to a low score of 85. In the second half, an impeccable batting performance ensured a victory in just 6.3 overs.
After winning the toss, captain Virat Kohli chose to bowl first. His decision proved to be right because Indian bowlers came in with all ammunition. The Scotland batters were absolutely clueless about how to face Bumrah (2/10), Shami (3/15) and Jadeja (3/15). This resulted in Scotland losing wickets one by one. Jadeja’s career-best performance (4-0-15-3) and the pace duo’s deadly yorkers resulted in Scotland getting all out for 84 in 17.4 overs.
India needed to chase this target in 7.1 overs to better the Net Run Rate of Afghanistan and New Zealand. Thus, openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul started playing aggressively from the first over. As a result, we got yet another massive partnership by the duo.
They have also registered the highest powerplay score of this tournament. After making a 70-run partnership with Rahul (50), Rohit (30) got out. The former then finished his 18-ball half-century and got out as well. Later, skipper Kohli and Surya Kumar Yadav have finished off the remaining proceedings. In the end, team India made 89/2 in 20 overs. It now has a better Net Run Rate (+1.619) than New Zealand (+1.277) and Afghanistan (+1.481).
To qualify for the semifinals, India needs to beat Namibia by a huge margin and also pray for Afghanistan’s victory over New Zealand.
