Somu Veerraju: Andhra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Somu Veerraju seems to have made casual comments on Rayalaseema people and Kadapa district which has ended up putting him deep trouble. But critics say it was comment made purposely by the state BJP chief. Is it true or was it just a slip of the tongue?
The BJP state chief said that in Kurnool district, where there is not even proper way to travel, an airport is being developed and another one in Kadapa, a district of murderers. He said those people who only know how to murder want to develop airport now. He suggested them to stick to laying roads and leave developing airports to the BJP.
Somu Veerraju made these controversial comments in the wake of AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announcing one airport for every district. “Center will take care of airports. State sovernment should take of roads which are in horrible condition,” he said and later made the controversial comments.
These comments have become sensational and YSR Congress MLA, Rachamallu Prasad Reddy made severe comments on him. “If this is not democracy, I would have slit Somu Veerraju’s tongue. People will beat him if he enters Kadapa district,” the MLA warned.
Rajampet municipal vice-chairman Marri Ravi said Veerraju has no idea about Rayalaseema and its culture. He wondered how such a person was made the BJP state chief. “It is not proper for Veerraju to project Kadapa as faction-ridden. Our culture is to treat the guests as gods,” he said and threatened to slit Somu’s tongue if he continues to make such comments.
Rayalaseema Community Party state secretary N Ravi Shankar lodged a police complaint against Veerraju for his derogatory comments on people of Kadapa. Meanwhile, the BJP state chief claimed that his comments were taken out of context. He said he meant those involved in the murder of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy.
Understanding the severity of his words, the BJP state chief tried to calm people by saying that his comments were taken out of context. He said he meant those involved in the murder of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy, not all Kadapa people.
But it looks like nobody is interested in his explanation, they are seeking public apology. Even as Somu Veerraju was gearing himself for a major showdown with the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) during the next elections, this controversy is likely to put him in back seat!
