Ravi Shastri: Ravi Shastri was phenomenal as the head coach for Team India in the last four years. Keeping aside the fact that the team didn’t win an ICC tournament under his tenure, Shastri had built a strong side across all three formats. His tenure was ended after the conclusion of the recent T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Shastri said that there were specific people on the board who didn’t want to see him as the head coach.
Shastri was first appointed in Team India’s support staff in 2014. He was named as the team’s director at that time. Under his tenure, Team India did well and qualified for the semifinals of the ODI World Cup in 2015 and T20 World Cup in 2016. However, he was removed without any explanation after his contract was ended in 2016.
Shastri was disappointed that he was not given a proper reason to end his post without an extension. In 2016, he applied for the head coach’s position but it was given to Anil Kumble. The latter had resigned to his post after India’s defeat against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Then Shastri was called back and offered the head coach position.
The veteran all-rounder said that it was a sheer embarrassment for the people who did not want him to see in the team once again. Shastri kept all the politics aside and dedicated himself to the team in the last four years. Thus, he became one of the finest coaches India ever had.
