Team India is currently going through a rough phase with two consecutive defeats in the ongoing T20 world cup. The team captain Virat Kohli is facing severe criticism on social media currently. Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission of Women issued a notice to the Delhi police in connection with rape threats issued against Kohli’s nine-year-old daughter.
After the poor performance of Kohli and his team, many criticized Mohammad Shami. A lot of netizens abused Shami online saying that he played on the side of Pakistan. But, Kohli took a stand for Shami and responded to this planned criticism against the star Indian bowler.
Speaking at a press meet, Kohli said that he don’t want to talk about faceless and spineless people. Kohli also took a stand for Shami saying that the entire team is with him. Those who did not like Kohli taking a stand for Kohli gave rape threats to his daughter.
Delhi Commission of Women took this matter seriously and issued a notice to the Delhi police. In a notice addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Cyber Crime Branch of Delhi Police, Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal said that the DCW has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter.
In her notice, Swati wrote, “It has been reported that online threats are given to rape the 9-month-old girl child of Virat Kohli since the team’s defeat in the recent India-Pakistan match. It is learnt that he is being also attacked since he spoke against the incessant trolling of his teammate Mohammad Shami who was targeted for his religion by online trolls.”
Swati also demanded that the police file a copy of the FIR (first information report). As per the reports, a Twitter handle with the name @ramanheist issued the rape threat. The same person later changed the handle name to @criccrazyygirl. It looks like the person is run by a Telugu-speaking Indian right-wing user.
