Team India’s star opener Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the Test series against South Africa due to a left hamstring injury. The selection committee has named Priyank Panchal as Rohit’s replacement for the series. Everyone expected the committee to name a capped Test player as a replacement but surprisingly, Priyank grabbed that chance.

Priyank Panchal
Priyank has recently led India A during the unofficial Test series against South Africa. Impressed by his skills, the management gave him a call-up. Priyank is a seasoned cricketer in the domestic circuit. Earlier, he was selected as a reserve member for the home series held against England in the first half of this year.
The 31-year-old player from Gujarat played more than 100 first-class games in his career. He made 7011 runs which include 24 centuries. It has been quite late but a worthy call-up from the BCCI. Priyank is also surprised by this decision and is excited to join Team India.

“Thank you everyone for all your good wishes. Honoured to be donning the team India jersey. Thank you for showing faith in me @BCCI. Looking forward to the series!” tweeted Priyank after getting selected in the Indian squad. As he played a series in South Africa less than a month ago, there are chances of him getting picked in the playing XI of any of the three Tests.
