Team India took a knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, ahead of the game against Pakistan which was held last night in Dubai. Openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma took the knee on the pitch and the rest of the team members have done it outside the boundary line. On the flip side, Pakistani players didn’t take a knee but held their hands on the chest.
However, this gesture from Team India received mixed responses from the fans back home. While some of the netizens appreciated the team for taking a stand on the global movement, some others criticized them for not taking a stand against the atrocities that are happening in our very own country.
People who criticized Team India questioned why all the cricketers are being silent on the atrocities that are happening against Muslims, Dalits and Tribals in various parts of the country. They stated that there is nothing wrong with supporting the Black Lives Matter movement but also asked the team to take a stand on the issues happening back home.
Here are some of the tweets that criticized Team India’s gesture:
Tbh, Indian players taking the knee was a little more embarrassing to watch than their defeat against Pakistan.

The Indian cricket team taking the knee would be funny, if it weren’t so disrespectful to the movement.

The sham started with this !
Take a knee for ONE black life in America … but silent on 400 farmers who died in India?
A sham never works!! https://t.co/TUGOj9usJJ

When will Indians take the knee to show solidarity with Indians like dalits, tribals & muslims being brazenly targeted at home?
Black lives matter.
Indian lives in India matter too. https://t.co/Oi8H0YysMl
