SS Rajamouli: Maverick director SS Rajamouli’s most successful and prestigious project till date is the Baahubali series. It had put Rajamouli on the map of World Cinema. Baahubali franchise enjoys a massive fandom across the globe. Now, such a huge project has been insulted by the streaming giant Netflix. It decided to scrap the supposed web series it planned to make on Baahubali.
If we get into the story, Netflix India announced a web series based on the Baahubali franchise. Titled Baahubali: Before The Beginning, it was supposed to be a prequel to the film series. It traces the story of Shivagami, Kattappa and Bijjaladeva. Netflix roped in Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru to helm this mega project. Rajamouli was one of the producers for it. They also allocated a huge budget for the series. Super 30 fame Mrunal Thakur had been signed up to play the Shivagami role. The shoot started on a grand note a few years ago.
However, Netflix was reportedly unhappy with the first copy. Later, it was rumoured that the organisation is planning to re-shoot the entire series with a different cast and crew. Apparently, the makers had already spent Rs. 150 crores on the series. For some unknown reasons, the reshoot also didn’t happen.
Now, it is being heard that Netflix has completely shelved the project, after spending such a huge budget on it. They only focussed on grandeur and scale and not on story and directors. Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru have no experience in handling such huge projects. Netflix should have roped in some experienced filmmakers, opined a few analysts. This is why Netflix is failing in India. Instead of focussing on the content, it focuses on the huge star cast and crew. The result is mediocre output. We have to see if the makers will realize this fact at least now.
