Telangana Rashtra Samiti President and CM K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) announced Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy as its candidate for the Munugode bye-election. The EC will release the election notification today.
KCR announced that Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy’s name was finalised after taking many factors into consideration. The party spokesmen said Prabhakar Reddy was active during the agitation for separate Telangana and had been actively associated with the people of the constituency.
Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy is from Lingavarigudem village and had resigned from a govt job in response to a call given by KTR to join the separate Telangana agitation. He also worked as the incharge of Munugode constituency in 2003. Later he got elected to be in the legislative assembly from Maheshwaram constituency in 2009 and also in 2014. In 2018 he contested from Munugode and lost with less number of votes.
It is said that KCR has taken the report submitted by the Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC), which was hired by the TRS as a political strategist. IPAC had done a detailed survey for TRS regarding the Munugode constituency. The strengths and weaknesses of each of the candidates have been analysed in the survey.
Telangana Energy Minister Jagadish Reddy has been in support of Prabhakar Reddy but others are against him. The Energy Minister is trying to bridge the gap between the local leaders in the constituency and the high command.
According to the sources, KCR is likely to campaign in Munugode soon and winning the bypolls is a matter of pride for the pink party.
