Modi in Varnasi: Is it spiritual or political?

Published by Navya Sri On December 13, 2021

Ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi how one could mix spirituality with politics? He will have plenty of lessons in that subject for all. The latest being his visit to Varnasi in Uttar Pradesh. Here he has two main agenda at hand; one is to inaugurate the first phase of Kasi Viswwanath Dham and second is to have brainstorming sessions with Chief Ministers and Deputy CMs from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governed states!

With Uttar Pradesh assembly elections around the corner, the PM seems to have lined up programmes that will appease the public, spiritually while the BJP will gain politically! All through these sojourns, Modi makes it a point to praise UP CM Yogi Adityanath and his governance. This right mix of spirituality with politics has what transformed BJP into a ruling party for this country and Modi will not change this winning strategy not only for the upcoming assembly elections in different states but also for General elections in 2024!

Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Rs 339 crore Kashi Vishwanath Corridor project that connects the temple town’s two iconic landmarks – Kashi Vishwanath temple and Ganga ghats. PM is in Varanasi for two days with a packed schedule. Later in the evening, the PM will witness Ganga Aarti while onboard a Ro-Ro Vessel with chief ministers and deputy CMs of various BJP-ruled states accompanying him. On Tuesday, he will address a conclave of 12 BJP CMs and nine deputy CMs where they will share best governance practices in their respective states.

Prime Minister’s holy dip in Ganga, offering of prayers at the Kaal Bhairav temple, and accepting a pagdi (headgear) from a common man – were some of the key moments this morning that preceded the big event. 23 buildings will be inaugurated in this phase of the project – spread over a massive area of almost five lakh square feet. In comparison, the previous premises were spread across 3,000 square feet.

With Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh around the corner, the event is likely to see the ruling BJP raise the poll pitch and showcase it as one of its key achievements. While renovating Kasi Viswanath temple is the big achievement for UP’s assembly elections, building of Ram mandir will be the biggest achievement of the BJP 2024 General elections!
