Unopposed, six persons named for MLC seats under the MLAs quota were unanimously elected and the election certificates were handed over to them. Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Kadiam Srihari, Banda Prakash, Takkallapally Ravinder Rao, Padi Koushik Reddy and P. Venkatram Reddy have been elected unanimously. These six candidates had filed their nomination papers on November 16. Meanwhile Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha has been fielded from Nizamabad local area constituency and she has filed her nomination today.
Of the 119 seats in the Assembly, the TRS has representation of over 100 in addition to support of MIM which has seven seats. The Congress and the BJP have therefore decided not to contest the election as the result would anyway be one-sided. Kaushik Reddy who was waiting inwings to become the MLC after the CM had recommended his name under Governor’s quota. But with Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan sitting on the file with no reply, KCR nominated him under MLAs quota!
After having got elected unanimously, Kadiam Srihari said, “With these election wins, the TRS will further strengthen across the state to work under the leadership of CM KCR and fulfil aspirations of the people.”
Drawing curtains to the speculation that Kavitha would be nominated for the upper house for the Parliament, KCR has nominated his daughter for MLC from Nizamabad. Along with Kavitha, TRS has finalised names of 11 other candidates under the local authorities’ category for MLC posts. The other candidates for MLC seats are Yadava Reddy, Tata Madhu, Patnam Mahender Reddy, Shambirpur Raju, Pochampally Srinivas Reddy, L Ramana, Bhanuprasad Rao, Dande Vittal, MC Koti Reddy, Kasireddy Narayana Reddy and Kuchumalla Damodar Reddy.
KCR has finally cleared Kavitha’s candidature, putting to rest all the speculation surrounding her selection. The term of Kavitha, who has been serving as an MLC from Nizamabad, will end in January, 2022.
