Kohli’s removal from the ODI captaincy has sparked a major controversy in Indian cricket. Ever since he was replaced by Rohit Sharma as the new ODI captain, analysts and fans have lashed out at BCCI for taking such a harsh decision despite Kohli’s impeccable captaincy records. Meanwhile, Kohli himself has made a few sensational comments about this issue earlier today.

Virat Kohli
Speaking in a press conference today, Kohli said that he was not given any prior information about captaincy removal. “I was contacted one-and-a-half hours before the selection meeting on December 8 for the Test series,” said Kohli. “There was no prior communication to me at all from when I announced the T20I captaincy decision until the eighth (December 8), when I got a call before the selection meeting,” he further added. Kohli announced about leaving his T20I captaincy on September 16.

Kohli said that the chief selector Chetan Sharma discussed the Test team ahead of the selection process. Before the end of the call, Kohli was informed that a team of five selectors have decided to remove him from ODI captaincy. Apparently, Kohli replied, “okay, fine.”
Generally, a captain is either given prior information or a grace period before removing him from his captaincy. However, nothing has been done in Kohli’s case. That is the reason why it is sparking a huge controversy in cricketing circles.
