The Khairatabad Ganesh idol was made from clay sourced from Rajasthan and painted with organic colours after the Telangana High Court banned the use of Plaster of Paris. The idol is called “Panchamukhi Lakshmi Maha Ganapati.”
Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav committee organiser, Raj Kumar said, “In these 68 years, first time, we have decided to install clay Ganesh. This year around, 150 artists worked on the idol. Paints came from Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, Maharastra, and Andhra Pradesh. It took 80 days to complete the idol and from June 1st.”
On the 11th day, the massive idol will be immersed in Hussainsagar lake with the help of cranes.
Lord Ganesh has Subramanya Swamy on one side and Goddess Gayathri Devi on the other. The idol was with the help of donations received from devotees all over the world. The cost of the idol incresed due to the increase in prices of clay and steel.
