The wait to become the MLC for P Kaushik Reddy seems to be eternal and there is no light at the end of the tunnel for this. The reason is Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundarrajan has not sent her consent on appointing Kaushik Reddy as MLC!
Kaushik Reddy is waiting with wings to become a member of the state legislative council. Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) has nominated Kaushik for MLC under Governor’s quota. Three months ago the government had sent nomination of Kaushik to Governor’s office, since then there has been no response from Dr Tamilisai.
According to a newspaper report, the Governor’s office has confirmed that the file is still pending with them and as she was busy, could not study the file yet. Kaushik, a former Congress leader, jumped into TRS after being promised MLC seat. He had earlier fought the Huzurabad assembly constituency under Congress against Eatala Rajender, who was with TRS!
But despite his nomination done by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, as promised, the file is hanging around and no confirmation has been given. Under the Governor’s quota, only distinguished persons should be recommended. But it seems Dr Tamilisai has doubts about the candidate and his achievements to be given MLC under the Governor’s quota. So it is said that she has kept the file on hold.
Interestingly, according to the constitutional norms, Governor can hold the file to study as long as she wishes; there is no timeframe to give her response. Moreover if she rejects and the government resends insisting that she give are approval, she will have to accept the nomination. According to political analysts, this was the reason for Governor’s delay in giving her reply to Kaushik’s file.
The surprising element is that KCR is yet to respond on the whole episode. It is said that Kaushik was poached into TRS from Congress for his connect with Huzurabad people and that he could be of use during the by-election. “Now that TRS has lost the by-election very badly, Kaushik might not get his due and will be side-lined slowly. The file will continue to be at Governor’s office and the government will not ask for its status,” said senior journalist in Hyderabad.
If this is true then the dream of walking to legislative council for Kaushik Reddy will remain a dream!
