Jai Bhim Review

Story:

Jai Bhim is the tale of an advocate named Chandra (Suriya) who fights to bring justice to a tribal couple Sengenni (Lijomol) and Rajakannu (Manikandan), who belong to a lower caste. Rajakannu gets illegally framed in a robbery that he didn’t even commit. After her husband goes missing from police custody, Sengenni approaches Chandra. How Chandra fights against all the odds and brings justice to the couple forms the main crux of the movie.

Performances:

First of all, Suriya should be commended for choosing such a script by not caring about his stardom. He gave utmost dedication towards the role and was terrific in it. His stardom and stature add a lot of depth to the character. He pulled it off very well.

Lijo Mol Jose gives an exemplary performance as a young tribal pregnant woman who fights for her missing husband. Even Manikandan gave an honest performance. Seasoned actors Prakash Raj and Rao Ramesh made their presence felt. Rajisha Vijayan gave a good performance too.

Technical Aspects:

Jai Bhim is based on real incidents that happened in Tamil Nadu during the early 1990s. The screenplay is very tight and keeps audiences invested in the film right from the beginning to end. The dialogues are very effective and impactful as well.

The cinematography is good and complements the setup of the movie. The same is the case with music composed by Sean Ronald. The background score elevates a few sequences in the movie. The production values and the production design has been great. The editing was also done well.

Review:

Director Tha.Se.Gnanavel comes from a journalism background and he has done thorough research about the story he is handling with. Making a film like this with a star hero like Suriya is never easy. But Gnanavel succeeded in delivering a compelling film without having any commercial elements to please the star actor’s fans. Even Suriya gave an earnest performance and stuck to his role completely. Some of the scenes are very painful to watch but that is the reality in the outer world. On the whole, Jai Bhim is a must-watch for all sections of audiences to know about the atrocities that happen to under-privileged people in our country.
