Jai Bhim: Suriya’s latest outing Jai Bhim had a direct OTT release earlier this week and has been getting a unanimous positive talk from both critics as well as the audiences. Directed by Tha.Se.Gnanavel, this movie is based on a real case dealt with by Justice Chandru. After watching the film, many people were intrigued about the life of Chandru and wanted to know more about him. Here are some details about the retired judge of the Chennai High Court.
Justice Chandru initially worked as an advocate in the Chennai High Court and was appointed as the judge at the same court by the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He is known for handling a lot of Human Rights cases. Chandru has handled many human rights cases without charging a single penny. After becoming the judge, Chandru delivered a verdict for more than 96000 cases, which is a record.
Some of the key judgments given by Chandru include the appointment of women priests in temples and common burial grounds for all people irrespective of their caste and class. Chandru also led a common life during his tenure. Even his retirement function was held in the court premises and after retirement, he left the government vehicle and went back home on a local train.
After his retirement, Chandru penned a book titled, ‘Listen to My Life’. He explained various cases he had dealt with, in this book. Jai Bhim is based on one such case which was mentioned in the book.
