There are no surprises in Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS), the ruling party’s annual plenary sessions to be held on October 25. The party has unanimously selected its founder leader K Chandrasekhar Rao to continue as the president of the party. Right from the day TRS was formed 20 years ago, KCR continues to be the undisputed leader of the party and there has been no change in this. So is this year also!
As all the leaders and workers are aware it would be mere formality to once again elect KCR as their president. “TRS is a democratic party and we follow all the rules in electing our leaders. It is not a dictator party, so the process of electing the leader is compulsory, and cannot be written off as a formality,” asserts TRS leader from Mahabubnagar.
Yesterday was the last date for filing nominations for the post of TRS president and the party sources said that 18 nominations were filed by different party leaders. All the leaders have proposed the name of KCR as president. No other TRS leader has filed the nomination papers to contest for the post. The nominations will be scrutinised on Saturday. On October 25, an announcement of KCR being re-elected as party president will be made. This would be followed by plenary sessions in Hyderabad.
With Huzurabad by-election slated immediately after the TRS plenary, the party has decided to hold the plenary in Hyderabad. It will be mostly closed door with live telecasts of important events. Later for November 15, the party has planned for a large public meeting called Vijaya Garjana. The public meetings which will be attended by all the TRS top leaders is being planned in Warangal.
According to senior political analysts, KCR has spread both the events – plenary and Vijaya Garjana – just to make full use of the opportunity. While plenary will be used as an election speech opportunity, the Vijaya Garjana will be used a celebration of victory in Huzurabad. When questioned what if TRS loses Huzurabad, the analysts came up with an instant answer that KCR will use the public meeting in Warangal to prove to people and opposition parties that despite losing the by-election the party has huge support of people!
Whatever be the occasion, KCR is clever to turn it into his favour!
