Is Sunil Deodhar stopping BJP,TDP alliance?

Published by Jayadev k On November 5, 2021

Andhra Pradesh state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in-charge Sunil Deodhar seems to be the hindrance for the re-marriage between BJP and Telugu Desam Party (TDP). This unholy marriage is all set to happen, only if this senior BJP leaders green flags it! Unfortunately for TDP, Sunil Deodhar seems to be hell-bent on saying no to this alliance!

Political experts and veteran politicians questioned the visit of TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu’s recent visit to Delhi. Was the Delhi trip just to demand for President’s rule or had the TDP chief got some other motives behind his visit to Delhi and meeting top-wigs?

Though nothing was clear, but talk around the political circles of AP say that Chandrababu Naidu made the trip to country’s capital for cementing the broken ties with ruling BJP and have an alliance similar to that of 2014 – TDP, BJP and Jana Sena Party – to take on the mighty YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in AP!

Chandrababu Naidu has the history of jumping parties and forming alliances with unexpected partners. In 1995 he formed alliance with erstwhile Chief Minister of combined AP NT Rama Rao and occupied the CM’s seat. In 1999 he joined hands with BJP, while Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister; then in 2004 he continued with BJP. In 2009 he joined with TRS and tried to fight against YS Rajasekhara Reddy. After separate state formation and looking the political wave, he once again joined hands with BJP and JSP in 2014. Then in 2019 he formed alliance with Congress. After having made rounds across all the major political parties, Chandrababu Naidu is looking at getting back to his BJP roots and it is believed that his trip to Delhi is aimed at that!

Though it was denied by all in TDP and AP BJP unit, the reaction of state BJP in-charge Sunil Deodhar has made people think that there is no smoke without fire! He said there is no question of alliance with TDP. “There is no question of alliance with the TDP. BJP and Jan Sena will contest all forthcoming elections together. Our stand is that Andhra Pradesh should get rid of both TDP and YSR Congress party,” he said.

Adding to the confusion, former TDP leader, who has jumped into BJP, CM Ramesh’s ridiculing of Sunil Deodhar’s statements on TDP. He questioned the BJP leader’s authority to express on behalf of the national party! Meanwhile, it is being said in AP political circles that former TDP members who have jumped into BJP, TG Venkatesh, Sujana Chowdhary and CM Ramesh, are on a mission to patch-up the alliance between the two parties.

Interestingly, BJP top leadership as well as the AP leaders have not criticised the words of Sunil Deodhar. So it looks like getting back into the fold of BJP-JSP alliance will be a tough task for TDP!
