IPL: BCCI has released the retention list of all the existing eight IPL teams last night. Two new IPL teams (Lucknow and Ahmedabad) will now have a chance to buy the released players. They can buy up to three players each. The purchase window will be active until December 25. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Everyone expected Dhoni to be CSK’s first priority player (salary-wise) but surprisingly, Jadeja got that slot.

It is always known that CSK will retain Jadeja and Dhoni for sure. Dhoni also hinted that he will play IPL 2022. But there are high chances of him bidding adieu to the league after next season. That is the reason why he cut his salary and gave the first position to Jadeja.
It is also heard that Jadeja will be the next captain for CSK and thus, he is given the highest salary in this retention process. Now, Jadeja will get a salary of Rs. 16 crores and Dhoni will get Rs. 12 crores. Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be paid Rs. 8 crores and Rs. 6 crores respectively.
CSK had to leave a few of their valuable players like Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, and Ambati Rayudu. They are planning to buy some of these left-out players again in the mega auction.
