It has been just over a month since the conclusion of IPL 2021 but the preparations for IPL 2022 have already begun. As there are less than six months left for the start of the tournament, all teams have started chalking out their plans. It is already known that two new teams, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, will be included from IPL 2022. Thus, the tournament features 10 teams in total. Due to the inclusion of these two new franchises, there will be a mega auction held before next season and every team will undergo a major revamp. Meanwhile, it is being heard that Chennai Super Kings will retain its skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Dhoni successfully led CSK since its inception. He gave the franchise four titles and made CSK the second-most successful team in the history of the league, after Mumbai Indians. Recently, Dhoni stated that he wants to play his last IPL game in Chennai.
According to the Indian Express report, CSK will retain Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad, along with Dhoni. It is being heard that the management is in talks with all-rounder Moeen Ali for the fourth retention spot. Apparently, the management feels that Chennai’s surface will suit Moeen’s batting. His power-hitting ability also makes him a dangerous player. If not Moeen, CSK will retain another English all-rounder Sam Curran.
On the flip side, it is also reported that KL Rahul is all set to walk out from his current team Punjab Kings, and will shift to the Lucknow franchise. Apparently, he will lead the new team.
