Indian opener Mayank Agarwal (150 off 311 balls) remained the sole hero for his team in the first innings of the second Test match against New Zealand which is being held in Mumbai. His 150-run knock helped India in getting a respectable total on the scoreboard. If Mayank hadn’t performed well, India would have gotten all-out for a very less score.
It was a crucial innings for Mayank because his position in the playing XI was at stake due to his poor form in the last few tests. He had to prove his mettle in order to stay in the team and he delivered at the right time. It was not just a mere knock as it helped India in getting out of the trouble.
While wickets were falling at the other end, Mayank kept fighting without being affected. He was well supported by Shreyas Iyer, Wriddhiman Saha and Axar Patel in the course of the first innings. Finally, Axar got out in the bowling of Ajaz Patel right after finishing 150 runs.

Meanwhile, Mayank’s heroics are overshadowed by Ajaz Patel’s brilliant spell. The Kiwi spinner scalped 10 off 10 wickets in the very same innings and stole all the limelight from Mayank. Anway, Mayank’s knock will remain special in India’s perspective and keep him alive in the eyes of the team selectors.
