Team India has put on an impressive show on the first day of the first Test match against New Zealand which is being held at Kanpur. By the end of today’s play, India managed to score 258/4 in 84 overs. Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja are in the crease and will resume the innings tomorrow.
After winning the toss, Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane chose to bat first. However, the team failed to get a good start as opener Mayank Agarwal got out pretty early in the bowling of Kyle Jamieson (3/47). But another opener Shubman Gill (52) settled the innings, with the help of Chateswar Pujara (26). Both of them made a useful partnership of 61 runs for the second wicket. After completing his half-century, Gill got dismissed in Jamieson’s bowling.
Within no time, Tim Southee dismissed the settling Pujara. Captain Rahane then tried to make a partnership with Shreyas Iyer but Jamieson played a spoilsport once again. The tall bowler dismissed Rahane (35) and claimed his third wicket in the innings. All of a sudden, India looked in trouble with a score of 145/4.

It was debutant Shreyas Iyer (75*) and Ravindra Jadeja (50*) who later settled the innings by playing cautiously. They played big shots whenever they got a chance and made sure not to lose any wicket in the process. Eventually, they have also completed their respective half-centuries by the end of the day. Shreyas Iyer looks all pumped up to score a century in the maiden game. It has to be seen if he achieves the feat tomorrow or not.
