Ind v NZ series review: Team India is continuing its dominance at home in Test Cricket. Just the other day, India won its 14th Test series on a trot on home soil. That record itself proves what a powerhouse the team has become over the last few years at home grounds.
India’s last Test series defeat at home came way back in the 2012-13 season where England had defeated the host country to win a four-match series by 2-1. Since February 2013, India didn’t lose a single Test series at home. Also, India has only lost two Test matches since 2013 at home. All these records prove India is almost invincible in home conditions.
The major reason for this transformation is the talent pool that India has right now. There are many skilled cricketers who can be filled in the squad right away whenever there is a need. Axar Patel, who made his debut earlier this year, has already become a regular part of the Team Indian squad for the home Tests. In the recently held Test series, Shreyas Iyer made his debut and impressed everyone by scoring a century as well as a half-century right in his debut Test. There are at least two to three players available for every slot in the Test squad.
This gives India a chance of shuffling Test squads at home and on overseas tours. Soon, Team India will be touring South Africa for a three-match Test series and three-match ODI series. The Test squad will be picked in a few days. We can see the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Jaspirt Bumrah and Rishab Pant making a comeback into the squad. Even if they are unavailable, there are many others, like Hanuma Vihari, Shreyas Iyer, Surya Kumar Yadav and Jayant Yadav, who are waiting for another chance of representing their country. With such a huge talent pool, India will definitely be the favourite of the upcoming World Test Championship.
