A combined effort from both the batters and the bowlers resulted in India’s third straight victory against New Zealand in the bilateral T20 series. Team India won this final T20I with a massive margin of 73 runs. With three wins in a row, Rohit Sharma and his men have whitewashed the series. In this final game, New Zealand fumbled to chase a high target of 185 and went all out for 111 runs.
The Kiwis got early blows while chasing this huge target. Star spinner Axar Patel (3/9) scalped three wickets in powerplay and broke the top order of New Zealand. Later, Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed dangerous-looking Martin Guptill (51). When all the top-order batsmen went back to the pavilion, India has almost sealed the victory. Barring Guptill, the rest of the Kiwi batsmen just came and got out without providing useful knocks. As a result, New Zealand got all-out for mere 111 runs in 17.2 overs.
Meanwhile, India gave a dominating show with the bat as well. Openers Ishan Kishan (29) and Rohit Sharma (56) made a partnership of 69 runs for the first wicket within just 6.2 overs. When India is looking set to score above 200, the Kiwi captain Mitchell Santner (3/27) got three wickets in succession. Soon after finishing his half-century, even Rohit got out. Thus, India’s momentum was disturbed. New Zealand came back strong in the middle-overs but blinder cameos by Deepak Chahar (21*) and Harshal Patel (18) in the death overs helped India in scoring 184/7 in 20 overs.
