Mayank Agarwal and Chateshwar Pujara have started off things for India this morning. New Zealand bowlers took advantage of the early swing and started scalping wickets in a succession. While Pujara got dismissed in the bowling of Kyle Jamieson (3/40), Ajaz Patel scalped the wicket of skipper Ajinkya Rahane. Soon, Southee (3/75) joined the party and dismissed Mayank Agarwal and Ravindra Jadeja in a single over. All of a sudden, India’s score was 51/5.

Shreyas Iyer (65) and Ravichandran Ashwin (32) then settled the innings for India by making a partnership of 52 runs. Right after lunch, Ashwin got out in Jamieson’s bowling. Then, Saha (61*) gave good support to Iyer. Both of them made a partnership of 64 runs for the seventh wicket. In the process, Iyer also completed his half-century. He is the first Indian to score a century and a half-century in the debut test. Later, Southee came and dismissed Iyer. However, India didn’t get affected due to the partnership of Saha and Axar (28*). Their 67-run stand played a crucial role in getting India a good lead. Saha also scored a half-century. Captain Rahane declared when the team’s score was 234/7.

New Zealand came in to bat with a target of 284 runs. They got an early blow in the form of Will Young’s wicket. He was dismissed by Ashwin. The Kiwis need to score 280 more runs tomorrow in 90 overs. They have 9 wickets in hand.
