While Team India showed resilience on the first day of the first Test in Kanpur, it was New Zealand’s show all the way on Day 2. India managed to score only 87 runs and lost 6 wickets this morning. New Zealand got a solid start as openers Tom Latham and Will Young made sure not to lose any wicket and scored 129 runs by the end of the play.
The Kiwis needed a strong start in order to cross India’s first innings total of 348 runs. Their team exactly got that with the help of Latham (50*) and Young (75*). The duo took things slowly and managed to settle in the crease well. Once they settled, both of them started attacking the Indian bowlers whenever they got the chance. Indian bowlers tried their best but the New Zealand openers just overpowered all the proceedings. By the time of stumps, New Zealand’s score was 129/0.
In the process, both Latham and Young completed their respective half-centuries. India needs to come back harder tomorrow morning and regain dominance over the game.

Though Team India started off the day in a dominant position, New Zealand took very little time to take things back in its control. Especially, Tim Southee (5/69) was deadly with the new ball and he also claimed a fifer by the end of the innings. He scalped the wickets of Jadeja (50), Iyer (105), Wriddhiman Saha and Axar Patel in quick succession. Later, Ajaz Patel finished things off by dismissing Ashwin (38) and Ishant Sharma. The only good takeaway for India today is Iyer’s maiden century on Test debut. His brilliant ton helped India in getting a respective total on the scoreboard. India got all out for 348 in the first innings.
