Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batsmen and captains in the history of Indian Cricket. In a career spanning over 13 years, Kohli has achieved so many feats that are impossible for most batters across the world. Today, the star player celebrates his 33rd birthday and here is a sneak peek into his career.
Kohli grabbed everyone’s attention by leading India to win the U-19 World Cup in 2008. In the summer of the same year, he was bought by the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore. He still continues to represent the franchise. Kohli made his debut in August 2008 against Sri Lanka. He scored a half-century in his fourth ODI. Since then, there was no looking back for him. Kohli started impressing everyone with his impeccable batting skills and soon emerged as one of the greatest batters in the world of cricket.
Until now, Kohli scored 23,150 runs in international cricket. He is currently the seventh most run-getter in the world. He has scored 70 centuries in his career, which is the third-most by any batsman in the world. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting are ahead of them. Kohli also holds the second most centuries in a calendar year, 11. Only Sachin is ahead of him.
Kohli scored 188 fifties in international cricket, the seventh most in the history of the game. He is now leading the team in all three formats. Kohli will be giving up his T20 captaincy after the ongoing World Cup. He will continue as the skipper of ODIs and Tests. We wish him a happy birthday and hope he continues to break many records in the future.
