Ankita Bhandari, a 19 year old girl was murdered and thrown into a river stream. The incident took place in Uttarakhand a couple of days ago and the body of the girl was fished out on Saturday after her parents found her missing from her room. She used to work as a receptionist in a resort and the resort owner, Pulkit Arya, who also happens to be BJP leader Vinod Arya’s son, its manager and assistant manager were arrested on Friday and sent to 14-day judicial custody. The autopsy report of Ankita revealed that she died due to drowning and there were findings of injuries on the body before death, suggestive of blunt force trauma.
Ankita’s father and brother had initially refused to perform her last rites until they get the final postmortem report. Finally, the family performed her last rites on Sunday.
Meanwhile, protests continued in Uttarakhand, demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami speaking to India Today said that strict action will be taken against those who have been responsible for the crime. CM Pushkar Dhami added that the Uttarakhand government will set up a fast-track court for speedy justice. According to the phone recording related to Ankita Bhandari, one of the friends of Ankita called Ankit, one of the accused in the case and asked about her whereabouts after her phone was switched off. He who allegedly returned to the resort after pushing Ankita into the canal, had told her that Ankita had come to resort.
