The Education Regulator, the All India Council for Technical Education, now approves the availability of courses in eight Indian local languages in engineering colleges. Of these, Telugu is also available. These courses will start from the 2021-22 academic session.
If we have a look at the languages in which the core courses will be taught are Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada and Malayalam. However, the reason for this is that the facility came from the decision of the Modi government to provide education in the mother tongue.
It was brought under the National Education Policy. The Minister of Education made this proposal in November 2020. It was then suggested that engineering education should also be brought in the mother tongue.
This decision will help those in the villages, especially those in the tribal areas. But there is another important purpose to bring this about. It really makes a lot of sense that teaching students in the mother tongue will help them better understand the fundamentals of the world.
However, the engineering courses will soon be extended to 11 other languages as well.
