Did Modi wash out KCR national politics ambition?

Published by Jayadev k On November 20, 2021

Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had drawn out huge plans through “paddy politics”. But looks like Prime Minister Narender Modi, through his announcement of repealing the three agricultural laws, seems to have removed the fizz out of the entire plan, so much so that there has been no word about paddy or farmers from TRS and its chief since yesterday!

With the paddy procurement issue becoming a big political pawn for TRS and state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, both the parties tried their best to take the best mileage of the issue, while none of them were bothered about the plight of the farmer! With politics taking the front stage, both the parties went on state wide dharnas demanding respective government to procure paddy that has been produced by the Telangana farmers.

KCR addressed media back-to-back two days and directly attacked the state BJP and also the Union government for being anti-farmer. He followed this up with a Maha Dharna at dharna chowk in Hyderabad. It was after seven years that KCR hit the road after having achieved Telangana state! In a bold attack against the BJP-led Union government, KCR said his party would spearhead the agitation of farmers across the country.

“Do you purchase paddy produced in Telangana or not? We want a straight answer from the Centre. There is a limit to our patience. We shall continue our fight till the Centre spells out its policy on paddy procurement,” the CM said, addressing the party leaders at the dharna. “The war has just begun. The TRS will join the on-going agitation of the farmers of northern India and take up cudgels on their behalf. We shall not rest till we ensure security to our farmers’ future,” he said.

With lots of enthusiasm and sense of making a dent into national politics, KCR made bold statements. But the very next day, the PM just pulled out the fizz out of KCR and made him silent.

Over the last two days there has been no word about farmers and paddy procurement from TRS chief. Surprising, even the state BJP which been at locker heads with TRS over the paddy issue is mute. They were too stunned by Modi’s announcement!

Meanwhile, sources close to Pragathi Bhavan are saying that KCR was yet to come to terms with the unexpected announcement by the PM and he was now devising a strategy to take on the Union government with regards to paddy procurement. Journalists say that paddy and farmers issue in Telangana will slowly take backseat as even the opposition BJP is not in a position to rake up the subject!
