With Huzurabad reaching a feverish pitch and all eyes set on the by-election, there is lot of hype and blame games that are dominating the political campaign. Meanwhile Election Commission of India (ECI) seems to be playing spoilsport for the ruling Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) and its Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
ECI laid huge restrictions with regards to holding huge public meetings in the constituency, later they asked the government to stop distributing money under Dalit Bandhu scheme, and recently it even stopped the TRS idea of having public meeting outside Huzurabad constituency and very close to the main place. These have disturbed the party’s plans and have upset KCR’s meeting schedule.
On counter the moves, KCR is using TRS plenary sessions as the stage for Huzurabad by-election campaign. But he has not been able to make up for loss that has been created due to the stoppage of Dalit Bandhu. Political pundits are terming this has a big hit to TRS prospects and will have larger impact on the election result.
On the other hand, at the TRS plenary, the party leaders and workers have once again bestowed the leadership post to KCR and have made him the president of the party once again. Many political analysts and journalists have pointed fingers at KCR for taking up the post once again.
According to a senior political analyst, “If only KCR had used this opportunity to make a dalit leader as the party president during this plenary then fortunes of all the parties that are contesting the by-election of Huzurabad would have decimated with one single move. It would have made for all the promises that KCR had made till date and never stood by them. Importantly, this single move would have compensated for stoppage of Dalit Bandhu as well.”
During the separate Telangana state agitation, KCR on record had said to then Congress president Sonia Gandhi that he would merge the party with Congress if separate state was allocated to Telangana as well as a dalit would be made the CM. Since the promise was not kept and many such have not been addressed by the CM, it was opportunity to capture the captive vote bank!
