Indian Women’s Fours team in Lawn Bowls won gold medal on Tuesday at the Commonwealth Games being held in Birmingham. The team comprising skipper Rupa Rani Tirkey, Lovely Choubey, Pinki and Nayanmoni Saikia beat the South Africans 17-10.
After winning gold at CWG 2022, Rupa Rani Tirkey, member of India’s Lawn Bowls team said, “I feel very proud. We had goosebumps (when we took to the podium & National Anthem was played). We had never thought of it but it became possible today.”
Nayanmoni Saikia, member of India’s Lawn Bowls team said, “Our morale went a little down when they levelled 1-1. But we didn’t lose hope. We talked to each other and understood that we can do it. We will secure one point at a time and cover it.”
Pinki Singh, member of India’s Lawn Bowls team said, “I am speechless. But I am elated. I can’t explain the feeling right now because it is a dream come true for me. 11 years ago we lost by 1 point. Now we got it.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Historic win in Birmingham! India is proud of Lovely Choubey, Pinki Singh, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani Tirkey for bringing home the prestigious Gold in Lawn Bowls. The team has demonstrated great dexterity and their success will motivate many Indians towards Lawn Bowls.”
