Cricket: For the last few months, it was speculated that cricket will be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. International Cricket Council (ICC) is also trying hard to get the sport inducted in the mega event. However, it faced an initial setback as cricket is excluded from the provisional list of sporting events made for the 2028 Olympics.

However, this is not the final list and ICC can still try to get its sport inducted in the Olympics. Speaking to the Times of India, an ICC spokesperson said that this move was expected and the board’s ambition of making cricket an Olympic sport has not changed.
“Cricket was never going to be on the initial sports list and the host city process to pick additional sports starts next year, and cricket will put its case forward as part of that process,” said the spokesperson.
The only time cricket featured in the Olympics was in 1900. Paris hosted the event at that time and cricket was played between only two countries in that event. After that, the mega sport has never made it to the mega sporting event. The other multi-sporting event in which cricket participated was in the 1998 Common Wealth Games. Cricket will be a part of the next edition of Common Wealth Games in the Women’s T20 format. It has to be seen when will this sport get a chance to be included in the Olympics in the future.
