Legendary Telugu lyricist Sirivennela Seetarama Sastry is no more. He passed away just about a while ago while undergoing treatment for pneumonia at KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad. He was 66. Sirivennela was admitted to the hospital on November 24. He was shifted to the ICU earlier today as his health condition deteriorated. Within a few hours, he breathed his last and left this world.
Sirivennela made his debut with the 1984 film Janani Janmabhoomi. But it was the 1986 film Sirivennela that gave him wide recognition. Eventually, the film’s title has become his name’s prefix. He won a Nandi Award for this movie. In a career spanning over three and a half decades, Sirivennela penned lyrics for nearly 3000 songs. Some of his successful films include Swayamkrushi, Swarna Kamalam, Swati Kiranam, Gaayam, Shrutilayalu, Okkadu, Varsham and Gamyam.
He won eleven Nandi Awards and seven Filmfare Awards in his career. He was the most acclaimed lyric writer in the Telugu film industry in this present generation. He was honoured with ‘Padma Shri’ by the Government of India in 2019.

The recent chartbuster Samajavaragamana was penned by Sirivennela. He also wrote the lyrics of RRR’s viral song Dosti. This is an irreplaceable loss for the Telugu film industry. Various celebrities and fans are mourning the death of Sirivennela and paying their condolences on social media.
