Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates was warned by the executives of Microsoft to stop sending inappropriate emails to a female employee in 2008. Later, they dropped the matter as Bill Gates told them that he would stop sending the messages.
According to the Journal, Brad Smith, then Microsoft’s general counsel and now its president and vice-chairperson, and Lisa Brummel, former chief people officer, warned Bill Gates that he has to change his behavior as it was inappropriate.
Microsoft spokesperson Frank Shaw told the Journal that just before Bill Gates was going to retire as a full-time employee, the company executives warned him of his inappropriate behavior. Shaw told the newspaper that Bill Gates had suggested meeting the employee outside of work in emails that were flirtatious and inappropriate but not overtly sexual.
Bill Gates stepped down as president in 2008 and remained on Microsoft’s board of directors until March 2020. He is one of the richest men in the world.
