August 7: Special Honour For Gold Medallist Neeraj Chopra

Neeraj Chopra created history by winning gold medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020.  Now, the day is going to be celebrated as National Javelin Day by the Athletics Federation of India.

Lalit Bhanot, the Chairman of Athletics Federation of India’s (AFI) Planning Committee announced that they are going to conduct javelin throwing competitions every year on August 7. We all know that Neeraj Chopra won first gold medal in athletics on August 7 at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Bhanot said in a felicitation program organised for Neeraj Chopra by the AFI, “Athletics Federation of India’s planning committee has decided to further promote javelin throwing and will hold competitions every year throughout the country on August 7 as Neeraj Chopra won the gold in Tokyo on this day.”

Neeraj Chopra, the son of a farmer, won the men’s javelin at the Tokyo Games and created history.

Neeraj Chopra also won gold at Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Now, the day is going to be celebrated as National Javelin Day by the Athletics Federation of India. The AFI started National Open Javelin Throw Championships in 2018 and its third edition is going to be conducted in October this year.

Indian Goalkeeper Amrinder Singh Urges Not To Tag Him!

Indian football team’s goalkeeper Amrinder Singh is vexed up? Want to know why? He took to his Twitter and urged the media persons and journalists to stop tagging him on micro blogging site instead of the former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

His tweet reads, “Dear News Media, Journalists, I am Amrinder Singh, Goalkeeper of Indian Football Team and not the Former Chief Minister of the State Punjab. Please stop tagging me.”

Just a couple of minutes after the Amrinder Singh’s post, the former Punjab CM retweeted his tweet and wrote, “I empathise with you, my young friend. Good luck for your games ahead.”

Recently, Captain Amarinder Singh resigned. Many expected that he would join BJP but in an interview with news media channel, he said that, he will not remain in Congress and is not planning to join BJP. Speaking to a news agency, he said that, “I have been in politics for 52 years. I have my own beliefs, my own principles. The way I have been treated. At 10.30 am the Congress President says you resign. I didn’t ask any questions. I said I will do it just now. At 4 pm I went to the Governor and resigned. If you doubt me after 50 years and my credibility is at stake. If there is no trust, what is the point of me staying in the party?”

Hockey Player Rupinder Pal Singh Retires!

India’s hockey player Rupinder Pal Singh announced his decision to retire from the sport. He took to his Twitter and shared his retirement statement. He played 223 matches during his 13-year-long career for the Indian team and he has been the part of Indian hockey team’s historic bronze medal winning Tokyo Olympics campaign. He was regarded as one of the best drag-flickers of the country.

Rupinder wrote, “I would like to inform you about my decision to retire from Indian hockey team. The past couple of months have undoubtedly been the best days of my life. Standing on the podium in Tokyo along with my teammates with whom I have shared some of the most incredible experiences of my life was a feeling I will cherish forever.”

He further added, “I believe it is time for me to make way for young and talented players to experience every great joy I have felt in these last 13 years of representing India. I have had the honour of wearing the India jersey in 223 matches and each of these matches are special for I had the privilege of playing for this great sport-loving nation.”

He thanked coaches late Shri Jasbir Singh Bajwa, Shri OP Ahlawat and his friends from Chandigarh Hockey Academy who played a big role in his formative years as a player.

Javelin Meri Saanson Mein: Neeraj Chopra’s New Ad Is A Sensation

Neeraj Chopra made India proud by winning the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the men’s javelin throw. Today, he surprised his fans in India by showcasing his acting skills in an advertisement for a famous credit card payment application. He became one of the most sought after marketable sporting icons in India.

In the advertisement, one could see Indian actor Jim Sarbh and later Neeraj Chopra created magic. At the end of the video one could hear to the song, “Javelin Meri Aakhon Mein, Javelin Meri Saanson Mein.”

In the advertisement, Neeraj plays the role of a reporter, a producer, and a bank officer and acted with much ease. Here is the advertisement, just give a look at it.

Neeraj Chopra is a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army, Chopra is the first track and field athlete to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics. He is also the first track and field athlete from India to win at the IAAF World U20 Championships, wherein in 2016 he achieved a world under-20 record throw of 86.48 m, becoming the first Indian athlete to set a world record.

Neeraj Chopra participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2018 Asian Games, serving as the flag-bearer in the latter and winning gold medals in both. In his debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Chopra won the gold medal on 7 August 2021 with a throw of 87.58 m in his second attempt. As of 2021, he is one of only two Indians to have won an individual Olympic gold medal as well as the youngest-ever Indian Olympic gold medalist in an individual event and the only one to have won gold in his Olympic debut.
