AP and Telangana: Is Telangana paying heavy price for its Chief Minister and Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s unabashed attack on the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi? Looks like that is case! If not now, they will have to pay the price if they do not change their stand towards the centre, say political analysts.
Going by latest move, Andhra Pradesh has received funds from Union health ministry which was due for a long time, but the same fund has not been allotted to Telangana. It is unfortunate that during the pandemic, there is need for fund in health sector and KCR government has not been able to get them for developing health infrastructure.
The centre has given funds for improving the facilities and infrastructure in Primary Healthcare centres (PHC). AP has received the funds and is very happy that it has come at the right time. But similar funds are due for Telangana as well; unfortunately they are not in the list of 19 states to have received the funds.
In total the Union health ministry has released Rs 8,453.92 crores for 19 states in the country and out of this Andhra Pradesh has received Rs 488 crores. The funds have been released for equipping the PHCs with latest and sophisticated machinery as well as to improve its services to people. Telangana along with eight other states have not received the amount!
Clarifying the reason for not releasing funds to 9 states, the Union health ministry said that they were yet to receive proposals from Telangana and other eight states. As soon as the ministry receives the proposals, they will release the funds, the officials told.
It is unfortunately that when the state is facing Covid crisis and there is a need to improve health services, KCR government has ignored the small aspect of sending proposals to the Union health ministry to receive funds! It is time, they realise this and send the proposal immediately to get the funds released.
