Amaravati-BJP: The Andhra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have launched a direct attack on ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy with regards to their opposition of three capitals and in support of making Amaravati as the only capital city of the state! Though this is first time that state BJP has taken a clear stand towards the capital issue, isn’t it support the cause of Telugu Desam Party (TDP)?

Interesting all the top leaders of BJP in AP are moving to Nellore district, Kavali town to join the “Amaravati Farmers Maha Padayatra”. They have openly expressed their desire to have Amaravati as the capital and also have joined the farmers protest. In fact this is what the TDP has been doing over the last two years and none of the BJP leaders even looked at the protest. Suddenly, the unfound love as emerged between BJP and Amaravati farmers!

BJP National General Secretary Purandareswari, National Secretary Y Satya Kumar, State BJP President Somu Veerraju, Rajya Sabha Member CM Ramesh, YS Chowdary, and several other BJP leaders address the press before leaving to Nellore district. Purandeswari restated BJP’s stand that Amaravati should be the state capital and said the same has been justified by the approval of several institutions and release of Rs 2,500 crore by the Union government for the city development.

Purandeswari said the BJP-led NDA government has given approximately Rs 1,440 crore to the state two months ago for bridging the fiscal deficit for the current year. Besides, the Union government provided funds for Amaravati ring road, Amaravati – Anantapur express highway and many other projects as it had been supportive of Amaravati as the capital from the beginning.

YS Chowdary said that his party supports the demand of declaring Amravati as the capital city of AP. “On behalf of BJP, we have passed a resolution for supporting Amravati as the capital. YSRCP government announced that there will be three capitals of the state without having any authority to do so. In order to support the local farmers who gave land for the capital development, BJP supports them and will see that capital remains in Amravati,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.

State BJP chief Somu Veerraju alleged that the government was putting obstacles in the path of Amaravati farmers. The BJP has so far extended moral support to the farmers. Henceforth, it would take up cudgels on their behalf, he added.
